Kuldeep Yadav Biography

Kuldeep Yadav Biography: Age, Height, Stats, Wife, IPL Career, India Career and Records

Kuldeep Yadav is one of the most unique and magical bowlers in world cricket today. He is a left-arm wrist spinner — a type of bowling so rare that even cricket experts call it a mystery. He plays for India in all three formats, for Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket, and for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. He is also newly married — he tied the knot with his childhood sweetheart Vanshika Chadha on March 14, 2026, in the beautiful hill station of Mussoorie.

Current IPL Team(2026)
Delhi Capitals (DC): Delhi Capitals retained him at ₹13.25 Crore. He has been playing for Delhi Capitals since 2022.

Kuldeep’s bowling is something batters across the world struggle to read. They watch his arm, they try to guess which way the ball will turn, and they still get it wrong. His googly deceives the best players in the world. His flipper rushes batters for pace. His chinaman — the left-arm wrist spin — is so rare that India went decades without a true practitioner of this art. Kuldeep is one of the very few people in the world who can bowl this style at the highest level.

But Kuldeep’s story is not just about spin magic. It is also about pain, tears, setbacks, and one of the bravest comebacks in Indian cricket. There was a time when he was not selected for the UP Under-15 team and thought his cricket dream was over. There was a time he thought about ending his life.

There was a dark phase at KKR when he was dropped and forgotten. Through all of that, he kept going. And today, he is a 2024 T20 World Cup champion, a 2025 Champions Trophy winner, a 2026 T20 World Cup champion — and finally a married man with his childhood love by his side.

Who Is Kuldeep Yadav?

Kuldeep Yadav is one of the rarest bowlers in world cricket — a genuine left-arm wrist spinner, also known as a Chinaman bowler. BCCI describes him as a “premier left-arm wrist-spinner and a genuine game-changer.” Delhi Capitals’ official profile calls him the “magician” in their bowling attack.

What makes him so special is his bowling style. Most spinners in India bowl with their fingers — they are off-spinners or left-arm orthodox spinners. Kuldeep bowls with his wrist, like Shane Warne did. But Kuldeep is left-handed, which makes his spin go in the opposite direction to a normal leg-spinner. This confuses batters who are used to playing right-arm leg-spin. He turns the ball away from right-handers, brings it into left-handers, and has so many variations — googly, flipper, top-spinner — that even the best batters in the world find themselves guessing.

He is a player whose “left-arm wrist-spin brought a fresh and exciting dimension to India’s spin bowling arsenal.” He is India’s only true Chinaman bowler, and there are only a handful of bowlers in the whole world who can bowl this style at international level.

Kuldeep Yadav Height and Weight

Kuldeep Yadav Height: 5 feet 6 inches (1.68 m) tall. That is equal to 168 cm.
  • Kuldeep Yadav Height in Feet: Kuldeep Yadav is 5 feet 6 inches tall.
  • Kuldeep Yadav Height: 5 feet 6 inches (1.68 m). That is equal to 168 cm.
  • Weight: Approximately 72 kg
  • Weight in pounds: Around 158 lbs

His height is good for a spinner — he gets extra bounce off the pitch, which makes his faster delivery (the flipper) harder to read. His slight build helps him bowl long spells without fatigue, which is very important for a spinner who needs to bowl 4 overs or 10 overs depending on the format.

Kuldeep Yadav’s Parents

Father: Ram Singh Yadav

Ram Singh Yadav is a brick kiln owner in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He runs a business making bricks — simple, working-class work. He was not a professional cricketer, but he loved the game and understood talent.

It was Ram Singh Yadav who first took young Kuldeep to a cricket coach. He could see something in his son — a certain gift with the ball, a certain magic in his wrist. He wanted that gift to be given proper coaching and structure. He took Kuldeep to coach Kapil Pandey, which turned out to be the most important decision in Kuldeep’s life.

Even today, Ram Singh Yadav is deeply connected to his son’s world. When Kuldeep got married in March 2026, his father went in person to the office of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to hand-deliver a wedding invitation. That personal touch — a brick kiln owner visiting a CM’s office to personally invite him to his son’s wedding — is a very warm and very UP moment. It shows the pride and love Ram Singh has for his son.

Mother: Usha Yadav

Usha Yadav is a homemaker who has raised Kuldeep and his three sisters in Kanpur. She is a quiet pillar of the family — not in public spotlight, but always present at home to give the family its warmth and stability. Kuldeep has credited both his parents for keeping him grounded and supporting his cricket even during the most difficult years.

Sisters: Madu, Anita, and Anushka

Kuldeep has three sisters — Madu, Anita, and Anushka. He is the only boy in the family and the youngest child. His sisters have always been protective and proud of him. Despite growing up in a big family in modest circumstances, the Yadav household was full of love and support. Kuldeep has mentioned in interviews how important his family has been, especially during the dark phases of his career.

Kuldeep Yadav Wife — Vanshika Chadha

Kuldeep Yadav Wife — Vanshika Chadha

This is one of the most beautiful personal stories in Indian cricket. Kuldeep Yadav and Vanshika Chadha are childhood friends from Kanpur who grew up just three kilometres apart — Kuldeep from the Lal Bungalow area and Vanshika from Shyam Nagar. Their families knew each other for years. Their friendship slowly grew into love, and after years together, they made it official.

Kuldeep Yadav Wife — Vanshika Chadha

Kuldeep Yadav Engagement

On June 4, 2025, Kuldeep and Vanshika got engaged at a private ceremony in Lucknow. The event was kept low-key and traditional — close family, close friends, and a few faces from the cricket world including fellow UP cricketer Rinku Singh, who attended alongside his fiancée Priya Saroj. Kuldeep and Vanshika exchanged rings and officially announced their relationship to the world.

Vanshika Kuldeep Yadav — Who Is She?

Vanshika Chadha (full name Vanshika Singh Chadha) is Kuldeep’s childhood sweetheart. She was with him before the fame, before the IPL contracts, before the World Cup wins. She knew the Kuldeep who struggled to get into the UP Under-15 team. That kind of love — the kind that was there before all the glory — is rare and special.

Here is everything known about Vanshika Kuldeep Yadav (as his wife is now known):

  • Hometown: Shyam Nagar, Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
  • Education: She completed her higher education in Melbourne, Australia — an impressive international qualification.
  • Vanshika Chadha height is 5′ 4″ (162 cm) tall.
  • Profession: She works as an administrative professional with the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) — a prestigious and stable government organisation. This is why she is often referred to as an “LIC employee” in media reports.
  • Personal style: She prefers a very private life. Despite being married to a famous cricketer, she stays away from media, social media celebrity culture, and public events.
  • Personality: Close friends describe her as warm, grounded, and genuinely humble.

The couple was present in each other’s lives through Kuldeep’s U-19 days and all his ups and downs since. Vanshika chose a quiet career in public service while supporting Kuldeep from the background. That balance — a star cricketer and a quietly devoted partner — makes their story especially touching.

Kuldeep Yadav Wife Photo and Wedding Details

The wedding of Kuldeep Yadav and Vanshika took place on March 14, 2026, at the iconic Welcomhotel The Savoy in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand — a heritage luxury resort set against the stunning Himalayan backdrop. The entire hotel was reserved for the wedding for several days.

The wedding was originally planned for November 2025. But Kuldeep postponed it because he wanted to be fully available for India’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad. India won the World Cup on March 8, 2026. Just six days later, Kuldeep married the love of his life. His first Instagram post after the wedding was simple and perfect: “Our Forever begins now. 14.03.2026.”

Pre-wedding ceremonies (March 13): The celebrations started on March 13 with the Haldi and Mehendi ceremonies. Kuldeep wore a bright pink sherwani for the Haldi; Vanshika was in a matching pink saree. The Sangeet that evening featured a live Sufi performance by singer Bismil, who performed custom shayaris written especially for the couple. Cricketers Suresh Raina and Mohammad Kaif were spotted enjoying the Sangeet — and apparently, it was a very high-energy night.

The Wedding Ceremony (March 14): For the main ceremony, Kuldeep wore a beige-gold sherwani with intricate tonal embroidery, a matching turban with a jewelled kalgi, and pearl kantha necklaces. Vanshika was breathtaking in a deep red lehenga with heavy golden zari work, traditional red chooda bangles, and an ornate golden maang teeka. The venue was decorated in elegant ivory and gold. Fireworks lit up the Mussoorie sky.

Guests: Cricketers present included Yuzvendra Chahal, Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and India’s fielding coach T. Dilip. Suresh Raina and Mohammad Kaif also came. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were reportedly on the wider invitation list. Yuzvendra Chahal — Kuldeep’s closest friend in cricket — shared photos on social media and wrote: “So happy you’ve found your forever love. Cheers to a beautiful life, Lil Bro.”

The Mehendi Ceremony (later shared): Weeks after the wedding, Kuldeep shared fresh Mehendi ceremony photos on Instagram. Vanshika wore a rich deep maroon velvet salwar suit with intricate embroidery, while Kuldeep wore a green bandhgala kurta by designer label Shantanu & Nikhil.

Grand Reception (March 17): Three days after the wedding, the couple hosted a grand reception at Hotel Centrum in Lucknow. The reception was a star-studded affair. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended, blessed the couple, and gave them gifts. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav was also present. India head coach Gautam Gambhir (who had missed the wedding) made sure to attend the reception. Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shikhar Dhawan, and Ravindra Jadeja (with wife Rivaba) were all spotted.

Kuldeep’s father Ram Singh Yadav had personally visited CM Yogi’s office to hand-deliver the wedding invitation — a beautiful gesture from a proud father.

Personal Life and Interests

Kuldeep Yadav is known for being humble and grounded despite his fame. He lives in Kanpur and has not moved to a big city like Mumbai or Delhi. He stays close to his roots.

Football fanatic: Outside cricket, Kuldeep is a huge football fan. He supports FC Barcelona of La Liga — Spain’s famous football league. He has mentioned wanting to open football academies in India to help develop the game. In August 2025, he even started a YouTube channel dedicated to football content.

Close friendship with Rishabh Pant: Kuldeep and Rishabh Pant share a very warm bond. They were Delhi Capitals teammates for several seasons. Mohammad Kaif has publicly said that “Rishabh Pant backed Kuldeep a lot” at Delhi Capitals — Pant’s confidence in Kuldeep’s bowling helped rebuild Kuldeep’s confidence during his comeback years with DC. Their friendship goes beyond cricket.

The famous “KulCha” duo with Chahal: Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal formed one of the most exciting spin partnerships in ODI cricket history between 2017 and 2019. Fans named them “KulCha” — combining their names, also a funny nod to the Indian bread called kulcha. Together they were devastating for India, confusing batters with left-arm wrist spin (Kuldeep) and leg-spin (Chahal) from both ends.

Pets and hobbies: Kuldeep enjoys watching movies and listening to music. He is an animal lover. He also has a creative side — his social media often shows artistic posts that fans love.

Cars: He owns a Ford EcoSport, Audi A6, and a Mercedes-Benz GLE.

The Dark Phase — Suicide Thoughts and Comeback

This is one of the bravest parts of Kuldeep’s story, and he has shared it publicly himself.

When Kuldeep was young and trying to break into Uttar Pradesh’s age-group cricket, he was not selected for the UP Under-15 team. That rejection hit him very hard. He had been working so hard, believing in his talent, and then came that no. The devastation was so deep that Kuldeep has revealed he thought about giving up cricket — and worse, he thought about ending his life.

He has spoken about this in interviews. It was a very dark period. But his family — especially his father Ram Singh — pulled him back. His father never stopped believing in him. His coach Kapil Pandey kept encouraging him. And Kuldeep found a way forward.

This story matters because it shows that even the greatest players face moments when they feel completely lost. Kuldeep overcame that darkest moment and went on to represent India, take hundreds of wickets, and win World Cups. It is one of the most powerful messages in Indian sports.

Later in his career, there was another dark phase — the KKR years from 2019 to 2021, where his form completely collapsed and he was dropped from the team. But that story comes later.

Early Life and Cricket Beginnings

Kuldeep was born on December 14, 1994, in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, but grew up in Kanpur — one of India’s major cities in UP. He grew up in the Lal Bungalow area of Kanpur. His father ran a brick kiln, and the family lived a modest but stable life.

Cricket came naturally to him. As a young boy, he wanted to be a fast bowler — specifically a left-arm fast bowler like his idols Wasim Akram and Zaheer Khan. He practiced running in, hitting the crease, and bowling with as much pace as he could generate.

Then came the moment that changed everything.

At local cricket trials in Kanpur, coach Kapil Pandey watched young Kuldeep bowl. He did not see a future fast bowler. What he saw was something rarer — extraordinary natural wrist flexibility and the ability to spin the ball sharply and in unusual ways. Kuldeep was doing things with his wrist that most fast bowlers never even try. Kapil Pandey told him: “Stop trying to be a fast bowler. You have something rarer — become a Chinaman spinner.”

Kuldeep was not immediately sure. He had dreamed of pace. But he trusted his coach. And that trust became gold.

He joined the Rovers Cricket Academy in Kanpur and trained at the Lalit Kala Academy ground. He started watching Shane Warne videos obsessively — studying his grip, his run-up, his use of the crease, his variations. He has said: “I keep watching videos of Warne. His grip, his length, his use of the crease — all unbeatable. I try to learn from the footage.”

The transformation from fast bowler to Chinaman spinner took time. But by the time he made it to UP’s age-group cricket, he was becoming something special.

Under-19 Cricket and the Hat-Trick

The moment that truly announced Kuldeep Yadav to Indian cricket was the 2014 ICC Under-19 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

In a match against Scotland, Kuldeep took a hat-trick — three wickets in three balls. He became the first Indian bowler ever to take a hat-trick in the history of the Under-19 World Cup. That was a massive achievement.

Kuldeep was one of India’s standout performers in the 2014 ICC U19 World Cup, taking 14 wickets in 6 matches (joint second-highest in the tournament) at an average of around 16.42. He took a hat-trick against Scotland (4/28) and was India’s leading wicket-taker.

Domestic Cricket Career

Uttar Pradesh in Ranji Trophy

Kuldeep made his first-class debut in October 2014 for Central Zone against North Zone in the Duleep Trophy. He later made his Ranji Trophy debut for Uttar Pradesh in the 2016–17 season.

His most remarkable domestic performance came in the 2017 Duleep Trophy — he took 17 wickets in just three matches. That is a staggering return for a spinner in first-class cricket. It confirmed that he was ready for the biggest stage.

He has been UP’s most important bowling asset in limited-overs cricket — taking wickets regularly in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Training Under Mentor Kapil Pandey

Throughout his career, Kuldeep has always credited coach Kapil Pandey for everything. Kapil Pandey taught him the basics, recognised his talent, converted him from pace to spin, and gave him the technical foundation to take on the world. Kuldeep has said in many interviews that Kapil Pandey is the most important person in his cricket career after his father.

IPL Journey Year by Year

2012 (Mumbai Indians — ₹10 lakh, never played): His very first IPL contract came from Mumbai Indians in 2012 for just ₹10 lakh. But he never got to play a match for MI. He was too young and unknown. Those years on the bench were his observation years.

2014 (Kolkata Knight Riders — ₹40 lakh): KKR bought him in 2014 for ₹40 lakh — a very modest price. He did not play immediately but used the KKR environment to develop.

2016–2017 (KKR — early IPL seasons): He finally made his IPL debut on April 13, 2016 against Mumbai Indians. In his debut season, he took 6 wickets in 3 matches at an average of 16.66. Promising for a debut. He continued developing in 2017, showing off his variations.

2018–2020 (KKR — ₹5.80 crore — peak KKR years): KKR retained him for the big money of ₹5.80 crore for 2018. This was his best KKR season — 17 wickets in 16 matches. He was KKR’s go-to spinner, picking up wickets in the middle overs with his googly and flipper. But from 2019, his form dropped sharply. He struggled to get wickets and his confidence went down.

2020–2021 (KKR — difficult years): In IPL 2020, Kuldeep took only 1 wicket in 4 games and was dropped from the playing XI. He did not play at all in IPL 2021 due to injury and poor form. KKR eventually released him before the 2022 mega auction. It was a devastating end to his KKR chapter.

2022 (Delhi Capitals — ₹2 crore — COMEBACK!): This is where Kuldeep’s IPL career was reborn. DC bought him for just ₹2 crore in the 2022 mega auction. Many people had written him off. But at DC, something changed.

He took 21 wickets in 14 matches — finishing among the top five wicket-takers in the entire IPL 2022 season! He won the Player of the Match award FOUR times in the same season — the most by any player that year. One of his most memorable performances was 4/14 against his former team KKR — his best-ever IPL bowling figures. That was a statement. He was back.

The key person behind his DC revival? Rishabh Pant. As Delhi’s captain, Pant backed Kuldeep fully, gave him the ball in important situations, and trusted his ability. Mohammad Kaif has publicly said: “Rishabh Pant backed him a lot.” That confidence from Pant helped Kuldeep rediscover himself.

2023 (Delhi Capitals — continued consistency): He continued at DC and delivered consistent performances, though he took fewer wickets than his 2022 peak.

2024 (Delhi Capitals — solid contributions): He was a key part of DC’s bowling attack and took important wickets throughout the season.

2025 (Delhi Capitals — ₹13.25 crore — IPL Slap Controversy!): DC retained him for a massive ₹13.25 crore ahead of the 2025 mega auction — a huge jump from the ₹2 crore they bought him for in 2022! That salary jump tells the whole story of his DC comeback.

In IPL 2025, Kuldeep was again DC’s leading wicket-taker with 15 wickets in 14 matches at an economy rate of 7.07.

But IPL 2025 also brought the most talked-about off-field moment of his career…

2026 (Delhi Capitals — ₹13.25 crore retained): He remains DC’s premier spinner for IPL 2026.

Total IPL Career Earnings (approximately):

From ₹10 lakh in 2012 to ₹13.25 crore in 2025–26, Kuldeep’s total IPL career earnings across all seasons are well over ₹50 crore.

The Kuldeep Yadav Slaps Rinku Singh Story — Full Truth

This is one of the most-searched cricket stories of April 2025. Millions of fans wanted to know: did Kuldeep Yadav really slap Rinku Singh? Let us tell you exactly what happened.

What Happened?

On April 29, 2025, Delhi Capitals played Kolkata Knight Riders at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. KKR won by 14 runs. After the match, in the post-game interaction area, cameras caught a 9-second clip of Kuldeep Yadav and Rinku Singh standing together. And then — Kuldeep slapped Rinku. Once. Then again. Rinku looked visibly stunned, and for a moment, his expression seemed serious and upset.

The clip had no audio, so nobody could hear what was being said. Within hours, the video went massively viral. Fans on social media were outraged. Many called for BCCI to ban Kuldeep. Some demanded suspension. Some even brought in ugly caste-based narratives (since Rinku Singh is from a different community than Kuldeep).

The headline “Kuldeep Yadav slaps Rinku Singh” was everywhere — trending on X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, YouTube, everywhere.

The Truth: It Was Friendly Banter

The next day, KKR stepped in with a brilliant response. They posted a video on Instagram titled: “Media (sansani) vs (doston ke beech ka) Reality!” — meaning “Media Drama vs the Reality Between Friends!”

The video showed Kuldeep and Rinku laughing together, throwing up the “love” hand sign, teasing each other with “Kaise hota hai?” (How do you do it?). The background music was “Yeh Dosti, Hum Nahi Todenge” — the iconic friendship song from the classic Bollywood film Sholay. The video ended with old childhood photos of Kuldeep and Rinku from their early domestic cricket days together in UP — proof of a friendship that goes back years.

The Reality Behind the “Slap”

Kuldeep and Rinku Singh are best friends — not just teammates. Both are from Uttar Pradesh. They grew up playing cricket together in the same domestic circuit. They have spent years together representing UP and playing for different teams. When Rinku got engaged to Priya Saroj, he attended Kuldeep’s engagement ceremony in Lucknow. When Kuldeep got married, Rinku was at the wedding in Mussoorie too.

The “slaps” were simply the kind of playful, affectionate rough-housing that close male friends do in India — patting, tapping, playing around. Without audio, the video looked alarming. With context, it was two best friends having fun after a cricket match.

KKR’s quick response put the entire controversy to rest. Neither Kuldeep nor Rinku ever publicly commented on the matter — because there was nothing to comment on. Their friendship is real and deep, and a viral video without audio could not change that.

Kuldeep Yadav and Rishabh Pant

The relationship between Kuldeep Yadav and Rishabh Pant is one of the most important stories in Kuldeep’s IPL comeback.

When Kuldeep joined Delhi Capitals in 2022 after being dropped and discarded by KKR, he was a cricketer whose confidence was shattered. Two years of being sidelined, one wicket in four games, zero trust from his IPL team — it would break most players.

But at DC, Rishabh Pant was the captain. And Pant believed in Kuldeep completely. He gave him the ball in important situations. He stood by him even when an over went badly. He pushed him to attack, to flight the ball, to trust his variations.

Mohammad Kaif, the former India batter who is deeply connected with Delhi cricket, publicly said: “Rishabh Pant backed him a lot.” That backing produced Kuldeep’s best-ever IPL season — 21 wickets, four Player of the Match awards, the man of the tournament among spinners.

Their bond is real. When Rishabh Pant had his horrific car accident in December 2022 and was out of cricket for over a year, Kuldeep was among the players who regularly visited and stayed in touch. Their friendship extends well beyond cricket.

The KulCha Partnership — Kuldeep and Chahal

One of the most iconic bowling partnerships in modern Indian cricket is the “KulCha” duo — Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal.

In India’s ODI team between 2017 and 2019, these two spinners played together regularly and became devastating in tandem. Kuldeep — left-arm wrist spin — attacked from one end. Chahal — right-arm leg-spin — attacked from the other. Batters faced two wrist-spinners from opposite arms, turning the ball in opposite directions. It was almost impossible to settle.

The nickname “KulCha” was a brilliant fan creation — combining Kuldeep and Chahal, and also referencing the popular Indian bread “kulcha” — a clever, fun, and memorable tag.

During their peak years together, this duo took a combined 200+ ODI wickets. In 2018, they were India’s most important bowling weapon in limited-overs cricket.

While injuries and form issues meant they did not always play together in later years, their friendship remains very strong. Chahal was present at Kuldeep’s wedding in Mussoorie in 2026 — one of the most enthusiastic guests, dancing and spreading joy throughout the celebrations. Chahal’s wedding congratulation message for Kuldeep on social media was heartfelt and loving.

Kuldeep Yadav India Career

Current India Role: Left-arm wrist-spin bowler in all three formats. He is India’s primary chinaman spinner — the most dangerous spinning option in the middle overs.

All Three Format Debuts

Test Debut: March 25, 2017 vs Australia at Dharamshala.

On his Test debut, Kuldeep took four wickets in the first innings. He became the first left-arm wrist-spin bowler ever to represent India in Test cricket. He was also only the third bowler in all of Test cricket history to take four wickets on debut while bowling left-arm wrist spin. Anil Kumble himself was the one who handed Kuldeep his Test cap — a beautiful moment captured on camera that Kuldeep treasures deeply.

ODI Debut: June 23, 2017 vs West Indies.

His first ODI wicket came quickly and he established himself as India’s primary chinaman option in the format.

T20I Debut: July 9, 2017 vs West Indies.

He became India’s primary wrist-spin option across formats within months of making his debut.

Two Hat-Tricks in ODIs — A Historic Feat

Kuldeep Yadav is the first Indian bowler ever to take two hat-tricks in international cricket. Both came in ODIs.

First hat-trick: September 21, 2017 vs Australia in Nagpur. Just months into his international career, he became the third Indian bowler to take an ODI hat-trick after Chetan Sharma and Mohammed Shami.

Second hat-trick: December 18, 2019 vs West Indies at Chennai. He took three wickets in three balls and made history as the only Indian bowler to have taken two ODI hat-tricks.

No Indian cricketer before or since has achieved this double. It is his most unique and remarkable individual cricket record in international cricket.

The 2023 Asia Cup — Player of the Tournament

India won the 2023 Asia Cup, and Kuldeep was absolutely outstanding throughout the tournament.

His most memorable spell was 5/25 against Pakistan in the Super 4 stage. He became only the fifth Indian bowler ever to take a five-wicket haul against Pakistan in ODIs — after Sourav Ganguly, Arshad Ayub, Venkatesh Prasad, and Sachin Tendulkar. Pakistan were bowled out cheaply as India won by 228 runs.

He finished the 2023 Asia Cup as the joint highest wicket-taker in the tournament (10 wickets alongside Rashid Khan and Mustafizur Rahman) and was named Player of the Tournament. He became the quickest Indian spinner to reach 150 ODI wickets in terms of matches played (88 matches), going past the great Anil Kumble.

The 6/25 Against England — Best Bowling by a Left-Arm Spinner in ODIs

On January 19, 2018, in the third ODI against England at Edgbaston, Kuldeep Yadav produced one of the best ODI bowling spells of his career: 6 wickets for 25 runs. These remain the best ODI bowling figures ever by any left-arm spinner in history. England were bowled out and India won easily. That spell announced to the entire cricket world that this man from Kanpur was genuinely world class.

2026 T20 World Cup (India Won): India defended their T20 World Cup title and Kuldeep played a crucial role. He won his third major ICC title with India. The win was also special because his wedding was just six days after India lifted the trophy — truly the perfect ending to a perfect month.

Kuldeep Yadav Bowling Style

Main Style: Left-arm wrist spin (Chinaman). He uses his wrist — not his fingers — to spin the ball. This is the fundamental difference between him and most Indian spinners.

What Is a Chinaman Bowler?

When a right-arm leg-spinner bowls, the ball turns away from a right-handed batter. When Kuldeep bowls his standard delivery, being left-armed, the ball turns the OTHER way — it comes into the right-handed batter from outside off stump. This surprises batters who have grown up facing right-arm spin.

His googly goes the other way again — turning away from the right-hander. His flipper shoots straight on with extra pace. The combination is devastating.

Key Variations

Standard Chinaman delivery: Turns into the right-hander. Hard to play. Googly (the “wrong ‘un”): Goes away from the right-hander. Even harder. Flipper: No turn, faster pace, skids on. Bowls batters all the time. Top-spinner: Dips quickly after pitching. Hard to drive.

Strengths

He has exceptional control over his variations. Even at high speed, he can disguise which delivery he is bowling. He is deadly in the middle overs of ODIs and T20Is, where batters are trying to build momentum and extracts sharp turn from flat pitches. He has an outstanding strike rate in Tests — taking wickets frequently and keeps his nerve in pressure situations.

Weaknesses

Before 2022, he was vulnerable to being “milked” — batters who played him cautiously without attacking could score steadily without losing wickets. His economy rate in T20s (around 7 runs per over) is decent but not tight. His best performances come when he is bowling with confidence — when his confidence drops, as it did in 2019–2021, his performances drop sharply too.

Conclusion

Kuldeep Yadav’s story is one of magic — in both senses. The magic he creates when the ball leaves his wrist and curves through the air to knock a stump out of the ground. And the magic of a life that went from a small family in Kanpur to World Cup glory and a mountain wedding with his childhood sweetheart.

He almost gave up. He thought about ending his life when the UP Under-15 team did not select him. He was dropped, forgotten, and written off when KKR sidelined him. He came back from all of it — with the best IPL season a DC spinner has ever had, with India’s greatest tournament bowling performances, and with three ICC titles.

And then, just six days after winning India’s third T20 World Cup, he stood at Welcomhotel The Savoy in Mussoorie — in a beige-gold sherwani, mountains all around, fireworks in the sky — and married Vanshika. The childhood friend who was there before any of it. His forever.

Kuldeep Yadav, the Jadugar of Kanpur, makes batters look foolish. And he makes love stories look beautiful.
